Navy Lightweight Crew Race Cancelled, Women's Race Still On

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- With a forecast of high winds that could create unrowable conditions on the Severn River, the Navy and Penn lightweight crew coaches have decided to cancel the races between the teams scheduled for Sunday morning in Annapolis. The coaches are looking at alternate dates for their respective varsity boats to race against each other for the Callow Cup, which has been contested annually since 1955.

Despite the cancellation of the lightweight races, the Navy and Washington College women's teams are currently planning on going ahead with their series of races Sunday morning on the Severn River.

One of the main reasons for the difference in the two decisions is that Washington College is driving to Navy Sunday morning and could wait for a report on the water conditions before leaving Chestertown, while Penn would have to travel to and spend the night in Annapolis Saturday before weather conditions are known.
