Lightweight Crew Places Four Boats in Finals
Links associated with this release: Navy's lightweight crew team placed four of its five boats in the finals of the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges Regatta, Sunday on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. Highlighting Navy's day was the second novice team which won not only its heat, but also the final. The Mids won the title with a time of 6:03.36, just ahead of second-place Yale at 6:04.28. Navy's first novice and third varsity boats both placed fourth in the finals, while the second varsity placed fifth. The first varsity boat was the lone Navy entry to not advance to the finals, but rebounded to win the petite final with a time of 5:46.64. Navy also placed sixth in the final Jope Cup standings for team points accumulated at the regatta. Navy finished in eighth place in the Jope Cup in 2000, as well as ninth in 1999 and 10th in 1998. "While we would have liked to have placed higher, we have to keep in mind that last year we didn't have any boats in the finals and this year all but one boat made it that far," said head coach Dale Hurley. "We have improved our standing in each of the last few years, and with a young team coming back next season I am confident we will once again gain more ground on the league."
