ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy lightweight rowing team will open its fall schedule this Sunday when it competes in the Occoquan Challenge. The all-day event will take place in Fairfax Station, Va., on the Occoquan River.
"This will be a good test to see where our training has put us at this point," said Navy head coach Steve Perry. "I'm excited to see how we do against the competition and how we are on race day."
The Midshipmen will have several boats competing on Sunday, including four crews in both the championship fours and eights races. Navy will have two crews in the novice eight race, four in the club four and one in the club eight events.
It is the lightweight team's first trip to the Occoquan Challenge since 2010 when it had a very strong showing. That season Navy took four of the top-five spots in the varsity eight and swept the top-four places in the varsity four.
