BOSTON - The Navy men's lightweight crew team had its one-minute penalty at the Head of the Charles Regatta from this past Sunday removed after a further review on Wednesday. With the penalty removed, the Midshipmen finished second out of 21 boats with a time 14:57.552, as opposed to its preliminary ranking of 17th place.
Princeton won the lightweight eight-oared race with a 14:46.757 clocking, followed by second-place Navy and third-place Queen's University (Canada).
Navy was originally assessed a one-minute penalty for being in the racing traffic lane while trying to return to the Boston University boathouse. However, due to the wind conditions that were present on the Charles River, the instructions to stop and navigate to the other side of the river could not be heard by the coxswain until just prior to coming upon the Boston University Bridge. As a result of the difficulty in communication with the boat, the penalty was waived.
The Midshipmen will return to action this weekend with a pair of events. Navy will send its freshmen to the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on Saturday in Philadelphia before traveling to the Princeton Chase in Princeton, N.J., on Sunday.
