Navy Crew Teams to Close Fall Season
Links associated with this release: Navy's three varsity crew teams will close their fall campaigns this weekend. The heavyweight and women's team will conclude their fall season Saturday at the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia, while the lightweight squad will race Sunday in the Princeton Chase in New Jersey. The lightweight's are coming off a strong showing in last Sunday's Head of the Charles Regatta. Both the Navy four and eight teams placed second among collegiate teams in their respective races. Despite incurring a 10-second penalty for missing a buoy, the Navy eight team placed ahead of Princeton and defending-national champion Harvard. "All of the top crews from our league will be in Princeton," said lightweight head coach Rob Friedrich. "With our strong results from the Head of the Charles, we are looking to do very well against our league rivals. It could be a very exciting weekend for the Navy Lightweight Crew." The heavyweight and women's teams will also have another opportunity to measure themselves against league foes at Saturday's Head of the Schuylkill. Included in the women's field are Syracuse, Rutgers and Princeton, all three of whom advanced to the 2001 NCAA Championship.
