ANNAPOLIS, Md. - All three Navy rowing teams will hit the water this weekend for their second-to-last races of the fall. The heavyweight and lightweight rowing teams will take part in the Princeton 3-Mile Chase on Sunday, while the women's team will be in Philadelphia, Pa., for the Head of the Schuylkill.

The Princeton 3-Mile Chase will take place on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J., and it's a regatta in which the Mids have posted solid performances over the past two seasons. The heavyweight varsity eight took third last season and fourth in 2010.

With more programs participating in this year's regatta, heavyweight head coach Rob Friedrich knows this year will be even more challenging.

"I think this is the best race of the season for us and will give us a chance to show our depth," said Navy heavyweight head coach Rob Friedrich. "With more teams attending, it will be more competitive event than it has ever been. It's a deep field and it will be exciting to see all of our boats racing against similar competition."

The lightweight eight posted the best finish (eighth) by any Navy crew at the Head of the Charles last weekend.

"This will be the final race we will have in the eights this fall," said Navy lightweight coach Steve Perry. "I thought last weekend we raced well, although it would have been nice to have finished better. We made some improvements in practice this week so we'll look to see how those play out on Sunday."

The women's team is making its first trip to the Head of the Schuylkill since 2010 as the team cancelled its trip to last year's event due to inclement weather. Navy finished in the top 10 of all three events in 2010 and on Saturday it will have two boats in the open club eights and one boat in the collegiate frosh/novice eights and the open heavy championship eights.
