Austin Treubert Wins Fan’s Choice Collegiate Rower of the Year Title
PRINCETON, N.J. – Austin Treubert, a senior on the Navy lightweight rowing program was announced as the USRowing Fan’s Choice Collegiate Athlete of the Year. Treubert earned the honor after winning a five-way fan vote versus competitors from across the landscape of collegiate rowing. The Freehold, N.J. native won with over 36% of the vote.
Treubert defeated Hector Formoso-Muria of Georgetown (28.77 % of vote), Brooke Pierson of Washington (14.25 %), Kendall Brewer of Michigan (10.78 %) and Alexander Richards of Harvard (9.79 %).
“Honestly, I was completely honored to be named as a finalist in the vote, and then seeing the support from my team, friends, family, and especially the Brigade was beyond humbling,” said Treubert. “Frankly, anything I've accomplished is just a testament to the hard work and dedication the whole Navy Lightweight team and coaching staff has put in over the past years; consistently going to the IRA National Championship and even winning gold in the Lightweight coxed Four last year.
“All in all, this award has myself and the team really excited to see what's in store this season to see everything we've put in pay dividends in the spring campaign.”
Treubert has rowed with the first varsity eight for each of his first three seasons at the Naval Academy and is in line for a fourth this coming spring. Over the summer, he represented the United States at the 2017 World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Bulgaria with the lightweight four crew and came away with a silver medal. He capped his busy summer with completing the SEAL Officer Assessment and Selection program in Coronado, Calif.
