Navy Game Notes
• With its 28-23 victory over East Carolina, Navy improves to 4-1 in season openers under head coach Paul Johnson ... the Mids are 3-2 in home openers under Johnson.

• Tonight's contest marked the inaugural meeting between Navy and ECU, though it was the second meeting between Paul Johnson and Skip Holtz ... Johnson's Georgia Southern squad beat Holtz and Connecticut, 52-30, in the 1998 Division I-AA playoffs.

Paul Johnson has posted a 14-5 record as the Mids' head coach when having more than one week to prepare.

• The Mids have won 12-consecutive games when scoring first ... their last loss came against Delaware on Homecoming in 2003.

• Navy owns a 27-11 record over the last four years and producing a 3-30 mark the previous three seasons ... the Mids improved to 15-2 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium over the last four years, after losing 14 straight at home the previous three seasons.

• Navy rushed for 403 yards on 70 carries, the 19th-best rushing game in school history.

• Navy has won 19-straight games and are 22-4 under Paul Johnson when rushing for 300-plus yards ... the last loss when rushing for over 300 yards was against Rutgers on Sept. 27, 2003.

• Navy extended its streak of games without returning a punt for a touchdown to 113 games, while the Mids have now played 96 games without returning a kick-off for a TD.

• Sophomore slot back Shun White (Memphis, Tenn.) scored the game's opening touchdown at 4:27 in the first quarter ... it was his first-collegiate touchdown.

Shun White's three-yard TD run marks the first time Navy has scored on its opening drive of the season since 1998 when Steve Holley scored on a five-yard run against Wake Forest.

• Junior kicker Joey Bullen's (St. Simons Island, Ga.) missed 37-yard field goal is just the fourth miss of his career ... he is now 9 of 13 ... 37 yards equals the shortest miss of his career, also missed a 37-yarder last year at Rice.

• Junior fullback Adam Ballard's (Lewisville, Texas) 16-yard TD run at 12:44 in the third quarter marked the 11th time in the last 12 games in which Navy has scored on its first possession of the second half.

• Senior QB Brian Hampton (Scott Air Force Base, Ill.) rushed for 149 yards on 34 carries, his first-career 100-yard rushing contest ... he is the 16th different quarterback in Naval Academy history to rush for 100 yards in a game ... it's the 57th time a Navy QB has rushed for 100 yards ... it's the most by a quarterback since Aaron Polanco's 179 yards on 33 carries against Rice on Oct. 23, 2004.

• Sophomore Clint Sovie (Jacksonville, Fla.) made a career-high eight tackles, tying David Mahoney as Navy's top tackler against the Pirates.

• Senior corner Jeremy McGown (Houston, Texas) recovered a fumble for the second-straight year in the season opener ... he also recovered a fumble in last year's opener against Maryland.

Adam Ballard's streak of 100-plus yard games came to an end after three games as he finished tonight's contest with 97 yards on 13 carries.
