June 21, 2012
NAME: Kyle Cregge
HOMETOWN: Alpharetta, Ga.
FAVORITE MEAL: Chipotle Burrito
FAVORITE TEAM GROWING UP: Atlanta Hawks
FAVORITE PLAYER GROWING UP: Josh Smith
YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW THAT I: Umpired in Cooperstown, N.Y. at the Field of Dreams Park
TO RELAX I LIKE TO: Play Xbox, read, or write
RIGHT NOW MY SERVICE SELECTION WOULD BE: Navy Pilot or Naval Flight Officer
WHAT HAS SURPRISED ME THE MOST ABOUT THE ACADEMY IS: How much people enjoy running around.
AFTER MY SERVICE COMMITMENT I HOPE TO BE: At Columbia, getting a J.D./M.B.A. in three years
IF I COULD EAT DINNER WITH ANYONE IN HISTORY IT WOULD BE: William Howard Taft. He’s the only man to have been Secretary of War, acting Secretary of State, President, and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. However that fact in his history is less-known than the “stuck-in-a-bathtub” story, so clearly he wasn’t as adept in the Oval Office as he was in the dining room. I’ll assume he must have been a master of gluttony and a good dining mate.
MY FAVORITE COACH NIUMATALOLO SAYING IS: “Your actions speak so loud, I can’t hear what you’re saying.”
IF I COULD BE ANYONE IN HISTORY I WOULD BE (NAME AND WHY): Thomas Paine. The man is one of the Founding Fathers, and made a living writing. He advocated for the end to not just the trade but the whole institution of slavery as early as 1775. He was a major part of the American Revolution with his pamphlet Common Sense that fantastically argued for why the colonies should revolt from the crown and The American Crisis Papers, which inspired our revolutionaries in 1776 and is still quoted today. His Declaration of the Rights of Man got him tried in England for seditious libel but was still remarkable for declaring the inalienable rights of all people. Finally his work The Age of Reason got him arrested during the French Revolution and nearly executed, but it remains a fascinating work on deism, rational thought, and study of traditional theology. He was a contrarian willing to call out the injustices of his time but was able to do it with logical argument and eloquent prose.
IN HIGH SCHOOL I DREAMED OF BEING: President
IF I COULD TRADE PLACES WITH ONE OF MY TEAMMATES IT WOULD BE (NAME AND WHY): Josh Cabral. He’s a fantastic example of the silent leader, relentless worker, and selfless person. You don’t have to speak to say what matters.
IF I COULD BE COACH FOR A DAY I WOULD: Make everyone run hashes
WHEN MY PARENTS ARE IN TOWN I LIKE TO: Go out and eat and enjoy the short time I have with them.
ON MY IPOD IS: Mumford and Sons
MY FAVORITE SUMMER VACATION WAS: Fleet Week in New York City this summer
MY FAVORITE MEAL IN KING HALL IS: Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches
MY FIRST THOUGHT STEPPING ON THE NAVAL ACADEMY CAMPUS WAS: Bancroft Hall looks like Hogwarts.
WHAT I LOVE ON GAME DAY IS: The silent preparation as a team until we run out.
MY FAVORITE CLASS IS (NAME AND WHY): English because I have the freedom to write and talk about really anything that’s on my mind or related to what we read.
THE FIRST TIME I RAN OUT OF THE TUNNEL AT NAVY-MARINE CORPS I: Couldn’t believe I was there.
THE WORD THAT BEST DESCRIBES A NAVY FOOTBALL PLAYER IS: Resolute
