Navy Football Joins Forces with Local Youth Camp
June 27, 2014
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy football program collaborated with the Peninsula Athletic League (PAL) to conduct a youth football camp on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at PAL Park off Bay Ridge Road in Annapolis. Several members of Navy's football teams volunteered their time to help teach a group of nearly 50 youngsters ages 5-13 the fundamentals of football through interactive drills.
A non-contact skills camp, the Midshipmen ran a number of drill stations that covered the basics on offense, defense and special teams. The camp wrapped up on Thursday night with a cookout and the Navy players signing autographs and taking pictures with the campers. The two-day event was not only a tremendous learning experience for the PAL program, but an opportunity for the Navy football players to interact and share some of their experiences with the youth of the community.
"It was awesome seeing how much fun the kids were having out there running through drills, and all of us enjoyed it just as much helping them out," said rising Navy senior long snapper Joe Cardona.
Added sophomore nose guard Cam Henson, "I really enjoyed coaching the kids! Their enthusiasm and love for the game of football made the experience awesome!"
