ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy head football coach Paul Johnson released the names of the 2006 Navy football recruits on Thursday as 51 prospects representing 17 states and American Samoa went through the induction ceremony on Wednesday at the Naval Academy.
"I think we brought in a good group of players, but we won't know how good until four years from now," said Johnson. "We emphasized speed and athleticism and I think this group can improve our team."
The state of Texas produced an incredible 19 prospects for the Midshipmen, while four incoming plebes hail from Virginia. Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Maryland and California produced three prospects apiece.
Navy football season tickets are currently on sale at the Ricketts Hall Box Office, by calling 1-800-US4-NAVY, or by logging on to the web at www.navysports.com. Navy's home opener is slated for Sept. 2 against East Carolina in a 5:30 p.m. contest that will be televised nationally by CSTV.
