Navy Punter Pablo Beltran Named ECAC Special Teams Player Of The Week
Oct. 10, 2013
Navy junior punter Pablo Beltran was named the ECAC Special Teams Player of the Week. Beltran averaged 42.5 yards per punt on six punts, with a long of 56. Three of his six punts were downed inside the 20-yard line as he helped pin the Air Force deep in Navy territory.
Beltran is averaging 45.8 yards per punt on the year, with five of his 12 punts covering 50 yards or more and six of his punts being downed inside the Navy 20-yard line. His 45.8 yard average would be a school record if he can maintain it (current record is 44.8 yards by John Skaggs in 2001) and he would rank eighth in the country in punting if he had enough punts to qualify.
The Mids are averaging 42.17 yards in net punting, which is the seventh best average in the country, while the Mids are giving up just 1.5 yards per punt return, the 11th best punt return defense in the country. Beltran is averaging 41.5 yards per punt for his career, which is the second best career average in school history. The record is also held by Skaggs, who averaged 42.5 yards per punt from 2000-03.
