Pospisil and Dowd Named Academic All-District
Nov. 5, 2009
ANNAPOLIS, Md.--Navy senior linebacker Ross Pospisil and sophomore offensive tackle John Dowd have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Pospisil and Dowd are now eligible for Academic All-America honors. Pospisil, who was elected defensive captain by his teammates, carries a 3.34 GPA in Ocean Engineering and is the leader of a stingy defense that is allowing just 21.4 points per game. Pospisil leads the Midshipmen with 65 tackles and is second on the team in tackles for a loss (6.5), sacks (2.5) and passes broken up (3). Pospisil is also an inspirational leader off the field and has been nominated for the American Football Coaches Association "Good Works Team" for his community service. He has started 26 career games, including 24-consecutive starts dating back to the 2007 Army-Navy game. Dowd has played in every game as Navy's third offensive tackle, spelling starters Matt Molloy and Jeff Battipaglia, as well as being used in short yardage situations. He is part of an offensive line that has paved the way for a ground game that is averaging 279.8 yards per game, the third-best average in the country. Dowd, who was the valedictorian at St. Peter's Boys High School, carries a 3.95 GPA in Mechanical Engineering.
