FOOTBALL BOWL SUBDIVISION INDEPENDENT PLAYERS OF THE WEEK NAMED
Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds, Navy linebacker DJ Sargenti and Notre Dame placekicker/punter Kyle Brindza have been named FBS Independent Players of the Week, for games played through Saturday, Nov. 23. Reynolds is cited on Offense, Sargenti is recognized on Defense, and Brindza is honored on Special Teams. Reynolds’ third award this season is the fourth of his career, while Brindza is honored for a second time this season and fifth time overall. Sargenti is a first-time honoree.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Navy QB Keenan Reynolds
A sophomore from Antioch, Tenn., Reynolds carried the ball 36 times for 240 yards and an NCAA-record seven touchdowns, while completing four of six passes for 46 yards and a touchdown, in Navy's 58-52 triple-overtime win at San Jose State. Reynolds became the fourth player in Navy history to rush for 1,000 and pass for 1,000 yards in a single season, while his 26 rushing touchdowns on the season leave him one away from tying the NCAA single-season record. Reynolds recorded 25-yard touchdown runs on the opening play of the first and third overtime periods—the last of which was the game-winner for the Midshipmen.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Navy LB DJ Sargenti
A senior from Ridgefield, N.J., Sargenti registered a career-high 18 tackles, and set personal single-game marks with 10 solo tackles and two tackles for a loss, in Navy's 58-52 triple-overtime victory at San Jose State. Sargenti’s performance was his third double-digit tackle effort of the season.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Notre Dame PK/P Kyle Brindza
A junior from Canton, Mich., Brindza connected on all three of his field goal attempts, including a 51-yarder midway through the fourth quarter of Notre Dame’s 23-13 home win over BYU. Brindza was also 2-for-2 on PATs in frigid conditions at Notre Dame Stadium. Brindza is now 12-for-13 in game-winning, game-tying, overtime or fourth-quarter lead-extending field goals over his career. With his 51-yard field goal, Brindza now has a school record five career field goals of at least 50 yards. Against BYU, Brindza also punted twice, with a long of 44 yards, and kicked off six times, recording a single touchback.
