Thomas Wilson (1st Team) And E.K. Binns (2nd Team) Named Academic All-Americans By CoSIDA
Dec. 3, 2015
Navy senior wide receiver Thomas Wilson (Brandenburg, Ky.) was named a First Team Academic All-American, while senior guard E.K. Binns (Cape Coral, Fla.) was named Second Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Wilson carries a 3.86 grade point average in Political Science (honors), while Binns has a 3.43 grade point average in Economics.
Wilson is the leader of Navy’s young wide receiving corps and is one of the top blockers for the nation’s second best rushing team in the country (330.1 yards per game). He has also caught five passes for 88 yards and a touchdown for the 9-2 Midshipmen.
Binns has been a three-year starter at guard for the Mids and has been one of the best offensive linemen in the triple option era. Binns has been extremely durable, starting 32 games over the past three years as he has helped pave the way for Keenan Reynolds to become the NCAA record holder for rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns scored.
Wilson is just the ninth First Team Academic All-American in school history, but the fourth in the last six years. Other first team honorees from Navy include Steve Eisenhauer (1953), Tom Forrestal (1957), Joe Tranchini (1958), Daniel Pike (1969), Ted Dumbauld (1980), John Dowd (2010 and 2011) and Keegan Wetzel (2012).
Navy, 9-2 and ranked #22 in the country, will face Army (2-9) next Saturday at 3:00 PM at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia in the greatest rivalry in all of sports. The game is presented by USAA and will be televised around the world by CBS.
