Keegan Wetzel Named Capital One First Team Academic All-American

 

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Navy senior linebacker Keegan Wetzel was named a Capital One First Team Academic All-American today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).   Wetzel is just the eighth Navy player to be named First Team Academic All-American and it marks the third-straight year that Navy has had a player make the first team.  John Dowd was named first team in 2010 and 2011.

 

Wetzel scored a perfect 1600 on his SAT and is believed to be the only current FBS player in the country to accomplish such a feat.  He carries a 3.89 GPA in systems engineering. 

 

Wetzel has been a force on the field for the Midshipmen, recording 63 tackles, a team-high 13.5 tackles for a loss, a team-high six sacks, has forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.  He is just two sacks away from third on Navy’s single-season sacks list.

 

Navy (7-4) will travel to Philadelphia on Saturday to take on Army (2-9) in the 113^th playing of the Army-Navy Game Presented by USA.  CBS will televise the game nationally starting at 2:30 PM.
