Navy Football Lands Six Players On All-East Team

Jake Zuzek

Dec. 24, 2013

Sophomore quarterback Keenan Reynolds, junior guard Jake Zuzek, junior tackle Bradyn Heap, senior linebacker Cody Peterson, freshman corner Brendon Clements and senior kick returner Marcus Thomas have been named All-East by the ECAC.

In just his second season at Navy, Reynolds, who was also named the NAAA Athlete of the Week for the seventh time this fall, is well on his way to rewriting the school and national record books, establishing an NCAA single-season record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 29 this season, tying the NCAA record for most touchdowns in a game against an FBS opponent (7 vs. San Jose State), scoring a program-best 42 points against San Jose State, breaking a nearly 100-year-old season scoring mark at Navy with 176 points (174 by Bill Ingram in 1917) and smashing the school record for points responsible for in a season with 224. He needs one rushing touchdown to become just the fourth person in FBS history to rush for 30 or more touchdowns in a single-season.

Zuzek and Heap started every game on the offensive line for the Mids and helped pave the way for Reynolds and the rest of the offense. Navy enters Monday's bowl game against Middle Tennessee State ranked second nationally in rushing offense (322.0 yards per game) and 32nd in scoring offense (34.3 points per game).

Peterson, Navy's defensive captain, has had a standout senior campaign recording 135 tackles. He is ranked second nationally in solo tackles per game (7.7 per contest) and is tied for second nationally for total tackles per game (11.3). Peterson's 135 tackles this year are the most by a Navy player since Rob Caldwell had 140 tackles in 2005. He needs 11 tackles against Middle Tennessee State in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl to land in the top five on Navy's single-season tackles list.

Clements had a standout freshman campaign with 46 tackles, a team-high four pass break-ups, a team-high two forced fumbles and a team-high tying three interceptions.

Thomas, Navy's all-time leader in kickoff returns and kickoff yards, has returned 21 kickoffs for 466 yards (22.2 average) with a long of 53 this year.

Navy will play Middle Tennessee State on Dec. 30 in Fort Worth, Texas. Kickoff is set for 10:45 AM in Fort Worth, 11:45 AM in Annapolis. Tickets are on sale now at:
