Mids Stand 11th at Snowman Getaway

Junior August Jonas is tied for 12th after two rounds at the Snowman Getaway.

2014 Snowman Getaway Results - Day 1

GOODYEAR, Ariz. —  Junior August Jonas (Jacksonville, Fla.) shot a 3-under par 141 to guide the Midshipmen to 11th in the standings at the spring-opening Snowman Getaway at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz.  The Mids, who who shot a 3-over par 579 with rounds of 289 and 290, enter Tueday’s final round just 5 strokes out of fifth.

“For our first competitive rounds of the spring, I was very impressed with our course management skills and discipline,” said Navy head coach Pat Owen.  “I thought we had some really encouraging results and have room to move up with a solid round on Tuesday.”

Both Jonas and classmate Bryce Keene (Bakersfield, Calif.) opened the tournament by posting a 1-under par 71.  Jonas improved his placement by shaving a stroke in the afternoon and stands tied for 12th in the standings.  Keene, meanwhile, slipped to 34th in the standings with a second-round 74 for a two-round mark of 145.

Freshman Devin Terry (La Crosse, Wis.) turned in a pair of 74s (148, +4) to nestle in at 55th, while senior Drew Selby (Charlotte, N.C.) is just two strokes behind in 65th.  Selby opened the tournament with a 1-over par 73, but the afternoon was not as kind as he shot a 5-over par 77.  Meanwhile, senior Chris House (Raleigh, N.C.) stumbled out of the gates tih a 7-over par 79, but regrouped and came back to shoot par in Monday’s afternoon round for a two-round mark of 151 (+7).

Service academy rival Air Force (563) leads the tournament after shooting a 13-under par for the two rounds, while Missouri-Kansas City (567) is 4 strokes back in second.  William & Mary (572) is in third place, followed by Utah Valley (573) and St. John’s (574).  St. John’s senior Ryan McCormick is atop the individual standings with a 12-under par 132, while Arizona State’s Blake Cannon is 10-under and in second place.

Navy, who is grouped with Gonzaga, South Dakota and Missouri State, will tee off at 8:00 am Pacific / 11:00 am Eastern.  Live results can be followed via
