GRASONVILLE, Md. —  After shooting a 30-over par 318 in the second round of the Whiting Turner Towson Invitational played at the Prospect Bay Golf Course in Grasonville, Md., the Navy golf team slipped from 11th to a tie for 14th in the standings with 18 holes remaining on Tuesday.  The Mids shot an opening-round 310 on Sunday and with a 52-over par 628, they are just a stroke behind 13th-place Iona and lead Patriot League foe Lehigh by a stroke.

Despite shooting an 8-over par 80 in the second round, Navy freshman Zeke Shaffer (Radford, Va.) is atop the Navy leader board in 42nd place with an 11-over par 155.  Shaffer opened the tournament with a team-low 3-over par 75 in what marks just his second collegiate tournament.

Meanwhile, junior David Hall (Huntersville, N.C.) and rookie Garrett Moyer (Annapolis, Md.) produced an 8-over par 80 in Monday’s opening round but the duo regrouped and both shot the low round of the day for Navy with a 6-over par 78 on Tuesday afternoon.  Hall and Moyer are tied for 54th with a 14-over par 158.

Sophomore August Jonas (Jacksonville, Fla.) trails Hall and Moyer in 64th with a 15-over par 159, while junior Chris House (Raleigh, N.C.) rounds out the Mids’ lineup in 68th with a 16-over par 160.  Both Jonas and House struggled in Tuesday’s second round, finishing the day 10-over.

William & Mary (291-292=583) extended its lead to 20 strokes over second-place Indiana University of Pennsylvania (305-298=603), who holds a 1-stroke advantage over Rutgers (300-304=604) and Loyola (302-302=604) who are tied for third.  Anchoring the efforts for The Tribe is Jeremy Wells who is the individual leader with a 4-under par 140 (68-72).

The Midshipmen will close out play at the 24-team Whiting Turner Towson Invitational on Tuesday when they tee-off at 9:40 am from the 10th hole.  Live scoring
