PRINCETON, N.J. —  Led by junior August Jonas’ (Jacksonville, Fla.) even par 71 in the final round, the Navy men’s golf team placed 13th at the 54-hole Princeton Invitational played at the Springdale Golf Club Sunday afternoon.  The Midshipmen came into the final round in 13th place with a 24-over par 592 and shot a 302 over the final 18 holes to post a three-round mark of 894 (+42).

While Jonas carded the Mids’ low round on Sunday, senior Drew Selby (Charlotte, N.C.) was the team’s low scorer for the tournament with an 8-over par 221.  Selby came into the final round tied for 20th with a 2-over par 142, but his 6-over par 77 in the final round dropped him to 35th in the final standings.

Jonas shot his best round of the tournament on Sunday and jumped from 53rd to 38th in the final standings with a 9-over par 222 (77-74-71).

Senior Chris House (Raleigh, N.C.) was consistent throughout the tournament (75-76-75), placing 51st with a 13-over par 226, while junior Bryce Keene (Bakersfield, Calif.) finished a stroke behind House in 55th with a 227 (73-75-79).  Rounding out the roster for the Mids was sophomore Garrett Moyer (Annapolis, Md.) who placed 74th with a 240 (82-74-84).

Despite Yale’s 11-under par 273 in the final round, Harvard was able to hold off the Bulldogs and win the team title with a 20-under par 832.  Yale finished three strokes behind (835) in second, while Dartmouth (854), Columbia (864) and Seton Hall (867) rounded out the top five.  

Meanwhile, Saint Joseph’s and Penn tied for 11th, seven strokes ahead of the Mids, while Navy secured 13th place by six strokes over Rider (900).

Harvard’s Akah Mirchandani claimed medalist honors with an 8-under par 205 (67-66-72), while teammate Robert Deng (67-69-70) and Dartmouth’s Jeffrey Lang (69-70-67) finished a stroke behind in second.

The Midshipmen will play their final regular-season match of the spring spring when they play host to the annual Navy Spring Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Naval Academy Golf Club.  Navy will field three teams among the 18-team field.
