2012 Philadelphia Big 5 Invitational - Rd 1
HUNTINGDON VALLEY, Pa. -- The Navy golf team is eight strokes out of the lead and stands ninth following the opening round of the Philadelphia Big 5 Invitational played Saturday at the Philmont Country Club in Huntingdon Valley, Pa. Sacred Heart and Yale lead the 19-team field with a 26-over par 306 through 18 holes.
The Midshipmen are well within striking distance, as Navy turned in a 34-over par 314. Navy trails eighth-place Drexel by one stroke, is three strokes behind Binghamton in seventh and is four strokes back from sixth-place Temple. Princeton, meanwhile, holds a 5-stroke advantage over the Mids in fifth. The Tigers' Greg James turned in the low round of the day with a 1-over par 71.
Junior Drew Selby (Charlotte, N.C.) is leading the charge for Navy, sitting in 16th place with a 7-over ar 77. Meanwhile, sophomore Staton Pruitt (Columbia, S.C.) is just outside of the top 20 in 24th with an 8-over par 78 and junior Bobby Keating (Garden City, N.Y.) is a stroke back in 41st with a 79. Junior Chris House (Raleigh, N.C.) stands 48th with a 10-over par 80, while August Jonas (Jacksonville, Fla.), who owns Navy's low stroke average this fall, struggled to find his touch and is in 81st with a 15-over par 85.
The final round of the Philadelphia Big 5 Invitational is set to resume Sunday at 8:00 am. Jonas will be on the course first for the Mids, teeing off at 10:51 from hole No. 1.
