Navy Golf 26th After First 18 Holes At NCAA West Regional
Links associated with this release: CORVALLIS, Ore. - Sophomore Nick Rogers' (Lothian, Md.) 3-over par 75 helped lead the Mids to a 22-over par 310 first-round score, as Navy finished the day 26th out of 27 teams at the 2001 NCAA West Golf Regional at the Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis, Ore. Leading the way after the first 18 holes is Arizona State at 5-under par, while Stanford is second at 4-under and Wake Forest is even with a 288. Individually, UCLA's John Merrick paced the field with a 5-under par 67, while both Arizona State (Jin Park) and Stanford (Philip Rowe) have representatives tied for second at 3-under. A product of St. Mary's, Rogers shot a 38 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine to tie for 74th after the first 18 holes. Just one stroke back is Navy's fiery freshman Billy Hurley. Hailing from Leesburg, Va., Hurley shot a pair of 38's to finish 4-over par and is tied for 92nd among the 141-man field. Following Hurley at 6-over par is sophomore Brian Crum (Fairfax, Va.) who is tied for 115th, while senior captain Kirk Glockner (Wilmington, N.C.) is 134th with a 9-over par and junior Drew Craig (Marion, Ohio) is 135th with an 11-over par. Navy returns to the greens Friday afternoon, teeing off at 12:45 p.m. Pacific.
