Steves Named Second-Team Academic All-American; Bradford Third-Team

Navy athletes have now obtained 99 Academic All-American honors all-time

Academic Honors:
2006 ESPN The Magazine At-Large Third-Team Academic All-America selection ... named College Gymnastics Association Academic All-America in each of his three years ... recognized on the Superintendent's List during all six semesters ... ranks 45th in his class with a 3.89 cumulative grade point average ... has posted a 4.0 grade point average in four semesters.

Athletic Honors:
USAG All-America gymnast in the still rings during the 2005 and `06 seasons ... earned a medal on the still rings at the ECAC Championship in 2005 and `06.

Enjoyed tremendous success while competing primarily on the still rings during his junior season ... scored a 9.0 or higher in 12 of his 14 competitions, inlcuding six-straight meets ... ranked as high as fourth nationally on the rings ... in the final rankings, he ranked as the 13th-highest scoring gymnast in the event ... advanced to the NCAA Qualifying Meet on the still rings ... posted six first-place efforts on the rings ... finished among the top-five scorers in the event on 13 occasions ... owned the team's highest score on the still rings during all of his 14 competitions ... opened the year with a 9.15 to win the event in the Navy Open ... earned a medal at the West Point Open with his 9.2 showing during the event finals ... posted a season-best 9.45 performance at the All-Academy Championship in Aliso Viejo, Calif. ... placed second at the ECAC Championship with a score of 9.2 during the event finals ... also finished second in the still rings finals at the USAG Collegiate Championship, scoring a 9.0 ... competed once in the floor exercise, scoring a 7.75 in the Navy Open.

Earned first-place honors at the USA Collegiate Championship on the still rings ... claimed the gold seven times on the still rings, averaging a 9.46 in 15 competitions ... posted a season-best 9.625 at NCAA Qualifying on the still rings ... set career-high with an 8.85 in the vault event at Army ... broke previous career-mark on the parallel bars with an 8.25 at Temple ... scored season-best 7.9 in the floor exercise in the Navy Open.

Competed in the all-around during the first three meets of the season ... concentrated on still rings later in the year ... ranked as high as eighth in the nation in the event ... won the still rings event at three meets and finished in second-place two times ... scored his best mark with a 9.65 at Springfield ... a late-season injury kept him out of ECAC competition.

Before Navy:
Competed for Gym South School & Gymnastics ... 2003 Junior Olympic all-around finalist and placed second on the rings ... member of the 2003 Region VII Team ... won the Region VII 10.0 Award and the Regional Eagle Award ... served as the Gym South team captain.

Son of Hal and Sheila Blackman ... brother Josh captained the gymnastics team in 2005 ... majoring in aerospace engineering ... born on Dec. 4, 1984, in Atlanta, Ga.

How gymnastics is preparing him for the military...
"The biggest thing that keeps people out of gymnastics is fear. It's dangerous, and there is a very real possibility of being seriously injured for life. Gymnastics has taught me how to excel in the face and in spite of fear. That is something that I think will be very important in the military."
