William & Mary Tops Gymnastics

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy gymnastics team dropped a dual meet with William & Mary on Saturday at Macdonough Hall in Annapolis. The 13th-ranked Tribe posted a team score of 420.50, topping Navy's 407.05.
William & Mary registered higher team totals in five of six events and held a 3.55 point lead after three events, but the Tribe outscored Navy by nearly 10 points over the next three events to seal the win. Navy scored a 68.15 on the floor, 66.5 on the pommel horse, 70.4 on the rings, 70.1 on the vault, 66.8 on the parallel bars and 65.1 on the high bar. The Mids' 70.4 on the rings was a season high.
Junior Chris Junghans led all competitors on the pommel horse with a score of 14.2 to take first place. He rounded out his all-around score with a score of 14.15 on the floor exercise, 14.15 on the rings, 13.5 on the vault, 13.65 on the parallel bars and an 11.85 on the high bar for a total of 81.5. William & Mary's Daniel Potemski scored an 83.2 to win the all-around and teammate Keaton Ackerman just edged Junghans to take second with an 81.55.
Sophomore Eric Viscardi was the other Mid to finish first in an event on Saturday as he registered a season-high 14.75 on the vault. Classmate Jeff Sauers finished closely behind Viscardi in the event with a score of 14.6, which was good for third place.
Viscardi was the only Mid with a pair of top-three finishes as he placed third in the floor exercise with a 14.2 to lead Navy in the event.
The Midshipmen (0-3) will take on William & Mary in the third dual of the season between the teams next Saturday in Williamsburg, Va.
