April 20, 2013
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Navy junior Chris Junghans placed 12th in the all-around finals at the NCAA Championships on Saturday night at Penn State University's Recreation Building. Junghans posted an all-around total of 82.0 and just missed out on placing in the top-10 by 0.4. Michigan's Sam Mikulak claimed the all-around national championship with a score of 91.15.
Junghans posted a 13.1 in the floor exercise, 14.25 on the pommel horse, 13.7 on the rings, 13.9 on the vault, 13.75 on the parallel bars and 13.3 on the horizontal bar. He improved his scores from Friday's qualifying round on the vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar.
"This is the most exciting meet of the year. I'm honored to have had the opportunity to compete with the best gymnasts in the country," said Junghans. "I was happy with my performance. I felt I left it all out there."
Junghans' 12th-place finish was one spot higher than where Andrew Faulk finished in the all-around at last year's NCAA Championships.
Saturday marked the first time Junghans competed in the all-around final at the NCAA Championships.
