David Toussaint Named ECAC Rookie Gymnast of the Week
DANBURY, Conn. – Freshman David Toussaint (Warren, Ohio) was recognized on Tuesday by the ECAC as the conference’s Men’s Rookie of the Week for his performance at the West Point Open over the weekend.
In his first collegiate meet on Friday, the West Point Open, Toussaint debuted in the team portion of the event and hit both of his routines with a tenth-place 13.4 on the floor exercise and a 13.35 on the pommel horse that ranked third overall. Advancing to Saturday night’s individual finals for both, Toussaint improved his standing on each of the apparatuses as he came back and placed fifth on the floor with a 13.55 before finishing runner-up on the pommel horse at 13.45.
This is his first career ECAC laurel and first of the young season for the Navy gymnastics program.
Toussaint and his Midshipmen teammates will be back in action on Saturday with the first home meet of the year, the 2018 Navy Open. The competition in Macdonough Hall will begin at 2:00 pm.
