Gymnastics Readies for 2018 Navy Open on Saturday
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Early-season multi-team action continues for the Navy gymnastics program this weekend as the Midshipmen host their annual Navy Open on Saturday afternoon. Beginning at 2 p.m. in Macdonough Hall, the Mids will compete against a four-team field made up of William & Mary, Springfield College and Temple. Navy is the three-time defending champion of the event.

At the 2017 edition of the Navy Open, the host Mids won the team title with a final score of 397.65 points. Navy defeated William & Mary, who posted 390.60 points, Springfield College at 389.7 and Temple at 366.65.
Individually, Tanner West won the all-around competition with 79.9 points. Amongst the event winners for Navy during the 2017 meet, Lucas Beltran finished first on the floor exercise (14.1), West was first on the rings (13.75) and Noah Beeman was tops on the high bar (13.35).
Last Time Out
The Navy squad kicked off its 2018 campaign at the West Point Open this past weekend. In the team event on Friday night, the Mids placed second behind No. 7 Penn State with 395.05 points. A complete team effort vaulted the Mids towards the top of the standings as 10 individuals posted top-10 results on Friday. Navy finished ahead of Army (380.35), William & Mary (378.30), Springfield (369.25) and Temple (223.05).
On Saturday in the event finals, Navy capped its strong opening run of action with 11 top-six podium finishes. Underclassmen Tanner West and David Toussaint led the Mids' effort with West winning the vault title and finishing fifth on the rings, while Toussaint placed second on the pommel horse and fifth on the floor. In total nine different Mids finished on the podium on Saturday.
For his strong results all weekend, Toussaint was selected as the ECAC Men's Gymnastics Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.
