Navy's Tam Selected EIGL and CGA National Gymnast of the Week
Jan. 23, 2007 ANNAPOLIS, Md. - For his efforts in winning two events and the all-around in the Navy Open, Navy junior Christopher Tam (Draper, Utah) has been selected the EIGL and NCAA/USAG Collegiate Division National Gymnast of the Week. The national weekly honors are the first for Tam in his career and the first by a Navy gymnast since Grant Regelin won the all-around in the team's win over Army last February. Opening the season against James Madison and William & Mary's, last year's league champion, Tam posted a score of 50.70 to claim first in the all-around. His combined tally in the six events is the third-highest total in his career. In surpassing the 50-point mark in the all-around, Tam scored higher than an 8.0 in all of the six disciplines. The Navy junior won the high bar with an 8.9 and claimed victory on the pommel horse with an 8.1 from the judges. The product of Draper, Utah, also placed among the top-three competitors in the floor exercise (8.3), still rings (8.25) and parallel bars (8.8). The Midshipmen (2-0) will travel this weekend to compete at the West Point Open. The team & all-around competition is slated for Friday night, followed by the individual event finals on Saturday evening.
