Gymnastics' Tanner West Named NAAA Athlete of the Week
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - In recognition of his large role in Navy's 402.9-391.7 victory over Army in the 2018 Star Meet, sophomore Tanner West (Cypress, Texas) was voted as the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week. The Texas native led the Mids with first place finishes on the rings and parallel bars, as well as fourth place results on the vault and high bar.
West contributed a total of 54.8 points to Navy's effort on Saturday with scores of 13.8 and 13.6 on the rings and parallel bars, respectively. On the vault and high bar, he was rewarded with scores of 13.95 and 13.45 from the judges.
So far in 2018, West has been the top-scoring Mid on the rings in all four meets, as well as being the high scorer on the parallel bars in three of four. He currently ranks second overall in the ECAC conference in both events.
West and the Midshipmen will be back in action this Saturday, Feb. 10 in the sophomore's home state of Texas. The 2018 All-Academy Championship between Air Force, Army and Navy is being held in San Antonio and is set to kick off at 1 p.m. local (2 p.m. ET).
