Jonny Tang Advances to Finals of 2017 Winter Cup Challenge
LAS VEGAS - After a strong showing in Thursday's first round of competition at the 2017 Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas, senior Jonny Tang learned late Thursday night that he had advanced to compete to the final round of the prestigious national event on Saturday. Tang was one of 24 gymnasts from across the youth, club, collegiate and Olympic ranks to qualify via their all-around scores.

In total, 42 gymnasts will be competing after qualifying according to their all-around placements, Men's Program Committee's points ranking system and/or placing amongst the top three gymnasts on an apparatus.
On Thursday afternoon, Tang recorded an all-around score of 77.55 in session one of the two session preliminary competition. He posted a 13.25 on the floor exercise, a 11.3 on the pommel horse, 13.0 on the rings, 13.8 on the vault, 13.35 on the parallel bars and 12.85 on the high bar.
Performances at the 2017 Winter Cup Challenge will help determine the 15 men who will comprise the U.S. Men's Senior National Team through the 2017 P&G Gymnastics Championships in Anaheim, Calif., Aug. 17-20. Following the two-day competition, the top four ranked all-around athletes will automatically qualify for the 2017 senior national team. The Men’s Program Committee will select up to eleven more gymnasts from the participants at the Winter Cup Challenge.
