ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy gymnastics team will test itself this Saturday night with a road matchup versus the top-ranked and three-time defending NCAA champion Oklahoma Sooners. The meet between the Mids (4-1) and the Sooners (4-0) at McCasland Field House is set to begin at 8 pm ET (7 pm-CT).

Saturday’s meet will be the first of the 2018 season to use the “five-up, five-count” format, in which all gymnasts’ scores will count. Prior to this weekend, teams were able to use the six-up, five-count format that helps harvest depth and allow for different lineups.

The two teams have competed alongside each other at the NCAA Championship Qualifying Meet in 2016 and 2017. At last year’s meet at West Point, Oklahoma scored 430.6 points in session two to rank first overall, while Navy ranked fifth of sixth teams with 400.65 points. The Sooners would later go on to advance into the national championship meet and win the program’s third straight NCAA title.
