David Toussaint Named ECAC Specialist of the Week
DANBURY, Conn. – Freshman David Toussaint (Warren, Ohio) earned his second ECAC weekly accolade of the year as he was selected on Tuesday as the ECAC Men’s Gymnastics Specialist of the Week following a pair of strong performances on the floor exercise and pommel horse in road meets at William & Mary and Springfield over the weekend.
In Navy’s only two-meet weekend of the 2018 season, Toussaint participated in both competitions and turned in excellent results on the floor exercise and pommel horse. Versus the Tribe on Friday, he posted a 13.7 score to place second on the floor exercise and a 13.95 on the pommel horse, good for first overall. While he was 0.1 points shy of the event win on the floor, he crushed the field on pommel horse by 0.65 points. Less than two days later at Springfield, he swept the two events with a 14.0 on the floor and a 13.1 on the pommel horse. Toussaint’s floor score was 0.3 points better than second place and his pommel horse routine was 0.5 points ahead of the runner-up.
This is the second career ECAC laurel for Toussaint as he was named the ECAC Rookie of the Week on January 16. As a program, this is the fifth accolade won by a Navy gymnast in 2018: Toussaint (Jan. 16 – Rookie, March 6 - Specialist); Andy Jones (Jan. 30 – Specialist); Ryan McVay (Jan. 30, Feb. 6 – Rookie).
Toussaint and his Midshipmen teammates will be back in action this weekend with a road tri-meet in Tempe, Ariz. on Saturday, March 10. The Arizona State Sun Devils will play host to the Mids and Penn State Nittany Lions in a 9 p.m. ET competition.
