ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The No. 14 Navy gymnastics team will close out its home regular season schedule on Saturday with a 2 p.m. meet versus ECAC opponent No. 18 Temple University at Macdonough Hall. The Mids and Owls will compete for the third time in 2014, as the two programs met in January at the West Point and Navy Opens.
Last Time Out
The Navy gymnastics team finished its 2014 home-and-home series with William & Mary last Sunday with a 425.4 to 413.65 setback on the road.
Mitchell Larios led Navy with a first-place finish in the parallel bars courtesy of a career-high score (14.4) and a runner-up finish in the vault (14.65). He completed his strong overall performance with a fourth-place finish in the floor exercise with a 14.0 score.
Thomas Goodell and Chris Junghans backed up Larios with strong individual performances of their own. Goodell finished second on the rings with a career-high score of 14.9, while Junghans set a personal-best in the floor exercise with a 14.35 score and tied his best score on the high bar at 14.7.
Scouting the Owls
After a slow start to its 2014 season, the Owls have posted improved scores in each of their last four meets going from a 397.45 versus Springfield to a 408.8 score last time out at Army on Feb. 28.
In the most recent team rankings, Temple is 18th overall with a 404.3 scoring average.
The trio of Jakob Welsh, Jon Rydzefski and Evan Eigner lead Temple in individual events. Welsh and Rydzefski are both nationally ranked in the all-around at 21st and 22nd overall with respective averages of 80.233 and 80.133. Eigner is ranked 46th in the rings with a 14.667 average.
