Toussaint Repeats as ECAC Specialist of the Week
DANBURY, Conn. – Freshman David Toussaint (Warren, Ohio) was announced on Tuesday as the Eastern College Athletic Conference Specialist of the Week. Following his performance at the Arizona State tri-meet between the Mids, host Sun Devils and Penn State, in which he placed second on the pommel horse, Toussaint was selected for his second ECAC honor in as many weeks.
Competing alongside gymnasts from the third-ranked Nittany Lion and 14th-ranked Sun Devil programs, Toussaint led the Mids on Saturday night with a team-high second place finish on the pommel horse with a score of 13.8. The next closest competitor, Colin Coates of Penn State, was 0.4 points behind Toussaint. The freshman also competed on vault posting a score of 13.75 and completed a floor exercise with a score of 13.4.
This is the third career ECAC laurel for Toussaint as he was named the ECAC Rookie of the Week on January 16 and Specialist of the Week on March 6. As a program, this is the sixth accolade won by a Navy gymnast in 2018: Toussaint (Jan. 16 – Rookie, March 6 – Specialist, March 13 - Specialist); Andy Jones (Jan. 30 – Specialist); Ryan McVay (Jan. 30, Feb. 6 – Rookie).
Toussaint and his Midshipmen teammates will be back in action this weekend with the final regular season meet of the 2018 season. Navy will host Michigan and William & Mary in a tri-meet at MacDonough Hall beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 17.
