ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy gymnastics team will compete at USA Collegiate Championship in Davis, Calif., at Rec Hall on the UC Davis campus beginning Friday at 4 p.m. (EST). The all-around and team competition will take place Friday and the individual event finals are slated for Saturday at 4 p.m. (EST).

"Coming off the Eastern College Athletic Conference meet, our guys should be fired up going into this weekend," Navy assistant coach Craig Holt said. "As far as winning the meet, that is something we want to do as a team. If we can hit our routines, this season-ending meet will be a success. "

Navy won the team championship last year, holding off UC Santa Barbara, Air Force and William and Mary. Dan Finnegan (Jr./Richmond, Va.) will be looking to successfully defend his 2000 all-around and high bar championships. Joe Brading (So./Sugar Land, Texas) and team captain Tripp Glasgow (Jr./Orlando, Fla.) earned All-America honors by placing in the top six in the individual event finals.

Finnegan, Brading and Drew Barker (Fr./Kennewick, Wash.) will compete in the all-around competition. Andy Helchinger (Jr./Stockton, Calif.) will compete on the parallel bars, rings and vault, while Nick Willet (Jr./Westminster, Md.) will be in action on the floor exercise, pommel horse and vault. Jeff Dean (Jr./Houston, Texas) will compete in every event except for vault. Glasgow, who placed third on the high bar last year, will compete in every event except for rings.

Other teams competing this year include Air Force, UC Santa Barbara, Southern Connecticut State, Springfield and William and Mary.
