DAVIS, Calif. - Joe Brading (So./Sugar Land, Texas) and Dan Finnegan (Jr./Richmond, Va.) closed out the Navy 2001 men's gymnastics season with a bang Saturday afternoon, each capturing an individual event at the USA Collegiate Championship in Davis, Calif.

Brading posted a score of 8.60 to win the parallel bars ahead of Southern Connecticut State's Shane James, who scored an 8.55 to finish second. Brading recorded a sixth place finish on the vault (8.80), two places ahead of teammate Andy Helchinger (Jr./Stockton, Calif.) who finished eighth (8.75).

Finnegan claimed the top spot on the pommel horse with a score of 8.70, easily outdistancing the second place James (8.50). Finnegan continued his strong performance, finishing in a tie for second on the high bar (8.475). He rounded out the meet with a fifth-place finish on the rings (8.55) and a seventh-place finish on the floor exercise (8.625).

Team captain Tripp Glasgow (Jr./Orlando, Fla.) placed eighth on the high bar with a score of 7.80.

"I thought it was a pretty good day for Navy gymnastics," Navy assistant coach Craig Holt said. "Tripp (Glasgow) missed his high bar routine and probably could have finished in the top three. Dan and Joe winning their events was a good way to close out our season."

Navy, which posted a score of 202.950 to finish second behind William & Mary in the team competition Friday night, finished the season with a 4-5 record. The Mids return all 13 gymnasts to the squad in what should be a very strong and exciting year for Navy men's gymnastics in 2002.
