Carter in 2017 (Jr.): One of Navy’s most versatile players on the roster, he played close defense, long-stick defensive midfield and short-stick defensive midfield before an injury four games into the season forced him to the sideline ... missed the final 10 games of the season ... part of a defense that held Boston U. scoreless for 16-plus minutes in the third and fourth quarters, enabling the Mids to go on a 6-0 run and grab a 7-5 lead against the Terriers ... a starter on close defense in 12 straight contests entering the season, made his debut at short-stick middie against Johns Hopkins in the opener ... grabbed a pair of ground balls.

2016 (So.): A member of the Mids’ starting defensive unit that finished the 2016 campaign ranked #2 in the country and #1 in the Patriot League in scoring defense (7.38) ... it’s the Mids’ lowest goals-against average since they surrendered a stingy 6.50 goals per game in 2008 ... Navy (16 gms), Monmouth (14 gms) and Detroit (12 gms) allowed the fewest goals in the country with 118 ... Navy gave up double digit goals in 6 of its 16 games in 2016 ... the Mids have held 15 of their last 29 opponents to scoring droughts of 20 minutes or more ... closed out his first year as a starter with 26 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers ... part of a unit that held Brown to 11 goals, the second fewest by the Bears over the course of the season (10 vs. Harvard), in the NCAA Quarterfinals ... Navy also held the Crusaders scoreless for the final 18:18 of the contest ... the three goals scored by Holy Cross since dropping a 13-3 decision to Army West Point in 2014 ... picked up a then career-high tying 3 ground balls in the win over Holy Cross ... Navy went on an 8-1 run against Lehigh (11:48 2Qtr - 0:37 3Qtr) to take a 9-3 lead after the Mids’ defense held the Mountain Hawks to scoring droughts of 17:10 and 13:09 ... caused a turnover, grabbed 2 ground balls and kept starting attack Matt Raposo scoreless in the win at Lehigh ... part of a defensive unit that held Lafayette scoreless for the first 19:12 of the game and the final 19:51 en route to an 11-4 win ... the four goals scored were a season low by the Leopards and it marked the third straight meeting in the series that Navy’s defense has held Lafayette to five or fewer goals ... played one of the best games of his career with personal highs in ground balls (3-tied) and caused turnovers (2) against Loyola ... Navy’s defense held Bucknell, who was averaging 11.75 goals per game, to a season-low 6 goals in what was also the fewest goals scored by the Bison in the series since 2008 ... Bucknell was held scoreless for nearly 30 minutes (28:26) between the second and fourth quarters ... turned in a ground ball and forced a turnover at Bucknell ... contributed a pair of ground balls and caused a turnover at Boston U. ... part of a defensive unit that held Delaware to just one goal ... it was the fewest goals scored by a Navy opponent since the Mids defeated Army West Point in the semifinals of the 2007 Patriot League Tournament, 12-1 ... it was also the fewest goals scored by a Delaware team since dropping an 8-1 decision to Fairleigh Dickinson in 1969 ... turned in a career-best 3 ground balls and a caused turnover against #5 Johns Hopkins ... earned his first collegiate start at close defense in the Mids’ opener against Air Force.

2015 (Fr.): Played in all 14 contests where he served as the backup at pole to Matt Rees ... originally earmarked as a close defenseman, but changed to pole following the Towson game ... member of the Mids’ defensive unit that finished the season ranked #13 in the country in scoring defense (8.57) and held 10 of its 14 opponents to single digits ... the Mids’ defense also held 7 of its last 12 opponents to scoring droughts of over 20 minutes - Holy Cross 29:55, Towson 24:38, Lafayette 22:50, Bucknell 20:18, Colgate 21:42, Army West Point 23:17, Army West Point (2) 22:46 ... produced his lone takeaway of the year at Air Force ... part of a defensive effort that held Army West Point to its second-lowest offensive output of the season (7 goals) which also marked the fewest goals the Cadets have scored in the series since 2010 ... made his career debut against VMI in the opener where he grabbed a ground ball.

More on Carter: A 2014 graduate of Lake Brantley High School in Altamonte Springs, Fla., Carter was a two-sport athlete who lettered in football and lacrosse ... an-all-conference selection, he was named a High School All-American as a senior ... served as lacrosse team captain his senior season and was selected as his team’s MVP ... also considered Yale, Rutgers, Bryant, Jacksonville and Towson ... majoring in Operations Research, he owns a 3.00 grade-point average ... named to the Commandant’s List three times ... stands 354th among his 1,090 classmates in Military Order of Merit ... son of Joe and Ginger Carter.
