Vernam in 2011 (Jr.): A three-year starter at defense who has started 40-straight games dating back to the 2009 Mount St. Mary's contest ... member of the Mids' man-down unit over the last three seasons, including the 2009 squad that finished the year ranked No. 1 nationally ... Navy yielded just six extra-man goals in 40 attempts (85.0 penalty killing %) ... Navy squelched 27 of its opponents' 40 attempts (.675) ... grabbed a career-high tying three ground balls in the Mids' one-goal loss to Colgate ... garnered Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors after holding Lafayette's Tom Perini to just one extra-man goal ... Perini was the league's top-scoring player (at the time) and the nation's second-leading career goal scorer ... turned in a caused turnover against Bucknell ... also credited with a shot in trying to beat the 10-man ride ... caused one turnover and grabbed a grounder in Navy's Patriot League opener against Lehigh ... grabbed his first ground ball of the season, as well as his first caused turnover in the Mids' loss at North Carolina (2-25).

2010 (So.): Part of a defensive unit that was ranked 13th nationally in scoring defense, giving up 8.67 goals per game ... member of the Mids' man-down unit that surrendered 20 goals on 59 attempts (66.1 penalty killing %) ... however, over the last nine games, Navy surrendered just eight goals on 29 attempts (72.4) ... the first six games, foes scored 12 goals on 30 attempts ... turned in four caused turnovers on the year, including a season-best two against Georgetown ... five of his six takeaways were recorded in the last six contests of the year ... grabbed 13 grounders, including three each against Loyola and Towson ... dealt out an assist in Navy's last-second loss at Towson ... the Mids put together two strong defensive efforts against Johns Hopkins ... held the Blue Jays scoreless for 19:16 between the end of the first and third quarters, enabling the Mids to take a 6-5 halftime lead ... after Hopkins took an 8-6 lead at 3:40 in the third quarter, Navy held the Jays scoreless the rest of the game (22:30) ... Crotty scored one goal and added a pair of assists against the Mids ...
