Sampson in 2013 (Jr.): Saw action in 12 of the Mids' 13 contests where he caused a pair of turnovers and picked up 11 ground balls ... a member of Navy's defensive unit that finished the year ranked 32nd in the country, surrendering 10.23 goals per game ... also a member of the nation's second-ranked team in caused turnovers ... the Mids averaged 10.00 takeaways per game and had two individuals - Austin Miller (#7, 2.31) and Pat Kiernan (#12, 2.00) - ranked among the top 15 ... Navy's defense gave up one goal in the first half of its 20-7 win over VMI and three goals in the first three quarters in an 11-7 victory over Detroit ... scooped up a career-high five ground balls in the Mids' season-opening win over VMI ... turned in his first collegiate takeaway in the Mids' league opener at Bucknell ... grabbed a ground ball and turned in a caused turnover against Johns Hopkins in the season finale.

2012 (So.): Navy boasted the nation's 14th-best scoring defense, surrendering 8.92 goals per game ... part of a spectacular defensive effort in which Navy stymied No. 6 Johns Hopkins for the first 25-plus minutes (25:31) of the game and again for better than 31 minutes (31:45) between the second and fourth quarters to hold Hopkins to its fewest goals in a game since April 2, 1966, when Princeton dealt it a 7-1 loss ... additionally, the two goals marked the fewest in series history by the Blue Jays since May 9, 1925, when the Mids earned an 8-1 win in Annapolis.• Part of a unit that held Colgate, the nation's No. 2 scoring offense, to under its scoring average ... 11 goals marked the fewest goals scored by Colgate since losing to Dartmouth, 9-6, on Feb. 25 ... the Mids also held the Raiders scoreless 18:15 between the first and second quarters, building a 5-1 lead, and for 12:15 in the fourth quarter ... scooped up a career-high three ground balls in the win over Colgate ... in just his second-career appearance, punched in his first goal in transition against Holy Cross ... also picked up a ground ball ... made his debut in a Navy uniform in the Mids' win over Towson.

2011 (Fr.): Did not see any varsity action ... gained experience in the system as a scout team player.

More on Sampson: A 2010 graduate of Emmaus High School, Sampson was a four-year lacrosse letterwinner who was also a three-time all-league selection as a long stick defensive midfielder ... served as team captain for three seasons ... led Emmaus to the four-straight (2007-10) league titles, while being crowned the district champion in 2009 and `10 ... son of Bernard and Imogene Sampson ... majoring in Quantitative Economics.
