Daniel Earns Patriot League Recognition
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Navy’s Christian Daniel (Fr / Owings, Md.) has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week following his five-goal performance in the Mids’ 15-5 win over Lafayette last Saturday in Annapolis. In addition to Daniel, Lehigh’s Andrew Pettit (offense), Craig Chick (defense), James Spence (goalkeeper) and Conor Gaffney (faceoff) were among those players recognized by the league office on Monday as Patriot League Players of the Week at their respective positions.
A starter in all seven games on attack for the Mids this season, Daniel punched in a career-high five goals on seven shots, equalling his career best in points (3G, 2A vs. Bucknell). He scored two of his five goals on extra-man, while teammate Ryan Wade (Jr / Coronado, Calif.) assisted on three of Daniel’s goals. Additionally, Daniel forced three Lafayette turnovers as the Mids combined for a season-best 13 caused turnovers.
The newcomer stands atop Navy’s scoring leader board with 19 points on 12 goals and seven assists, while Daniel also leads the team in conference action with 12 points on nine goals and three assists.
Daniel is the second Navy player to earn the league’s rookie of the week citation, joining long-stick midfielder Jeff Durden (Cumming, Ga.) who picked up the award on Feb. 19 following the Mids’ win over UMBC.
Navy returns to action next Saturday when it plays host to defending Patriot League Champion Loyola (4-2, 2-0 PL). The second game of a men’s and women’s (Colgate, 11:00 am) doubleheader, the men are scheduled to face off at 1:30 pm or 45 minutes after the conclusion of the women’s game. Both games of the doubleheader will be televised live by CBS Sports Network. The game will also be carried live on 1430 AM / 99.9 FM WNAV with Pete Medhurst and Joe Miller on the call.
