Meanwhile, Army junior defenseman Brendan Buckley was named the 2012 Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year.

An honors student majoring in systems engineering, Hoffstadt boasts a 3.97 grade-point average and is ranked 37th in his class of better than 1,100 students in overall order of merit which factors in both academic (27th) and military (31st) achievements. He has been named to the Commandant's List every semester at the Academy, while earning Superintendent's List honors three times and Dean's List mention twice. Hoffstadt played in all 13 contests this spring where he generated seven points on five goals and two assists. He opened the season by producing his first collegiate hat trick with three goals and one assist against VMI. He also contributed goals against Detroit and Lehigh.

All seven of the league's schools that play men's lacrosse are represented on this year's Academic All-Patriot League Team, including Lehigh, who led the league with three student-athletes. Additionally, Army, Bucknell and Colgate put two on the team, while Holy Cross, Lafayette and Lehigh each had one represented. Five of the 12 members who garnered academic honors also received All-Patriot League recognition a day earlier - Brendan Buckley (Army), Mike Huffner (Bucknell), Peter Baum (Colgate), Ryan Snyder (Lehigh) and Ty Souders (Lehigh).

The Academic All-Patriot League Team was added for all sports beginning in the 2010-11 season to honor student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
