CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Six Navy men’s lacrosse players were named to the 2014 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll released by the conference office Monday, including four-time selection and 2014 Men’s Lacrosse Academic All-Patriot League Team member Erik Hoffstadt (Dover, Del.).
Hoffstadt, who is one of just two players in Navy men’s lacrosse history to be named to the league’s academic honor roll in all four years, graduated in May with a 3.98 grade-point average in Systems Engineering. An honors student, he stood 21st in his graduating class of 1,081 in Academic Order of Merit and was 45th in Overall Order of Merit which factors in both academic and military (48th) performance. He turned in a flawless 4.00 GPA during the spring semester, his seventh semester achieving that mark. While at the Academy, he was named to the Commandant’s List in seven of the eight semesters, while earning Superintendent’s List honors four times and Dean’s List mention three times.
Hoffstadt started five of the 14 games in which he played this spring where he generated five points on three goals and two assists.
Joining Hoffstadt on the list were five first-time honorees for the Mids — senior Pat Durkin (Germantown, Md.), sophomores Jules Godino (Summit, N.J.), Jack Morgenthaler (Downingtown, Pa.) and Aaron Zimmerman (Homer, N.Y.) and freshman Connor Prevost (Cary, N.C.).
A starter in 38 of the 40 games over the last three seasons, Durkin turned in 13 points on eight goals and five assists this season. While contributing to the team on the field, he was an excellent role model in the classroom where he registered a 3.38 GPA in Oceanography this past spring. It marked his first semester with a 3.00 or better, as he received his degree in May and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Marine Corps.
Godino earned his first appearance on the list after posting a 3.59 GPA in Physics. An excellent student, he is among the top 30 percent of his class in academic order of merit and has achieved at least a 3.00 GPA in each of his four semesters. The second-year defenseman was projected to be a starter in 2014, however, injuries to both feet sidelined him for part of the fall and the first three games of the season. Seeing action in 11 games, he started the final three contests for the Mids.
Zimmerman earned a 3.26 GPA in English and earned his third Commandant’s List citation, Morgenthaler earned Dean’s List and Commandant’s List mention after turning in a 3.56 GPA in Economics, as did Prevost who recorded a 3.61 GPA in Quantitative Economics.
A total of 129 men’s lacrosse student-athletes were named to this year’s Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, including Scholar-Athlete of the Year Joe Fletcher of Loyola. Additionally, four of the 129 honorees achieved a 4.0 GPA or higher during the spring semester — Colgate sophomore Andrew Aicher (Economics) and senior Justin Kirchner (Economics), Fletcher (Accounting) and Hoffstadt (Systems Engineering).
To be eligible for the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average during the spring semester. Student-athletes representing all four classes are eligible for the award.
