CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Four Navy men's lacrosse players were named to the 2012 Patriot League Academic Honor roll released by the conference office this week, including three two-time selections.
Graduating senior Logan West (Berlin, Md.), along with rising juniors Erik Hoffstadt (Dover, Del.) and Paul Zimmerman (Homer, N.Y.) earned their second academic citation from the Patriot League, while rising junior Matt Morrison (Bethesda, Md.) was selected for the first time in his career.
West achieved a 3.50 grade-point average during the spring semester and graduated in May with a degree in systems engineering and boasted a 3.35 GPA over his four years. He was named to the Commandant's List in five of the eight semesters, while also garnering Dean's List mention three times, including his final semester at the Academy. On the field, West charted a 41.6 faceoff win percentage this spring, winning 91 of the 219 draws he took. He closed out his career ranked third on the Mids' all-time faceoff win list with 266 and a 47.1 (266-565) career win percentage.
A member of the Honors Program who is studying systems engineering, Hoffstadt made his fourth-straight Commandant's List appearance as well as the Dean's List this spring when he finished the semester with a 3.84 GPA. The second-line midfielder stands 35th in his class of 1,140 students in academic order of merit, while ranked 37th in military order of merit. Over two years, he has received just one "B" and owns a 3.96 GPA.
Hoffstadt was one of the most improved players on the team transitioning from his freshman to sophomore seasons, producing nine points on six goals and three assists. He produced points in big games, including goals against Bucknell, Lehigh and Johns Hopkins and assists against Army and North Carolina.
Zimmerman recorded a 3.31 GPA during the spring semester in the field of history and like Hoffstadt, he is a also a member of the Honors Program at the Academy. A member of the Mids' goalkeeping corps, he will be vying for playing time this season with the graduation of three-year starter RJ Wickham
this past May.
Morrison, who earned a 3.35 GPA this past spring in Arabic, is in the midst of a six-week study-abroad program in Muscat, Oman. Morrison was one of just 12 students in the entire United States to receive a scholarship from the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center's SALAM (Summer Arabic Language and Media) program.
To be eligible for the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average during the spring semester. Student-athletes representing all four classes are eligible for the award.
