Eleven Mids Secure Spot on Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Academic Honor Roll
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Eleven members off Navy’s NCAA Tournament-qualifying men’s lacrosse team were named to the 2016 Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Academic Honor Roll it was announced by the league office, including 2016 USILA Scholar All-American and Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year John Connors (Bellmore, N.Y.).
Among the 11 Navy players recognized, just four had previously appeared on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Earning their third academic citation from the league and graduating this past May, faceoff specialist Ted Demiris (Parkton, Md.) produced a 3.25 grade-point average as a mechanical engineering major, while midfielder Aaron Zimmerman (Homer, N.Y.) earned a 3.25 grade-point average as an honors student in English. Connors earned a spot on the honor roll for a second straight year after posting a 3.56 GPA in history, while Zach Hirsch, also a member of the honors program in English, etched is name into the record books for a second consecutive year with a 3.71 GPA. Connors and Hirsch also earned their degrees in May.
Meanwhile, seven players earned their way on to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for the first time this spring, including graduating seniors Beau Gomez (Ambler, Pa.) (3.20, English), T.J. Hanzsche (Berwyn, Pa.) (3.44, History) and Kevin Wendel (East Islip, N.Y.) (3.27, Oceanography). Additionally, freshman Ian Burgoyne (Darien, Conn.) (4.00, Mathematics), freshman Sam Kopf (Seattle, Wash.) (3.41, Chemistry), sophomore Nick Ramsey (Crofton, Md.) (3.28, Economics) and junior Connor Wade (Chesapeake, Va.) (3.81, Quantitative Economics) made their debut on the list.
The nine Patriot League schools that sponsor men’s lacrosse combined to place 186 student-athletes on the Men’s Lacrosse Academic Honor Roll with Holy Cross leading the way with 27 honorees.
Three student-athletes delivered a 4.00 grade-point average, including the NCAA Elite 90 winner Loyola junior Chris Myers (Business Administration), Holy Cross senior Sean Wilkinson (Biology) and Navy freshman Ian Burgoyne (Mathematics). Meanwhile, six student-athletes earned academic honor roll status for a fourth time: Bucknell’s Shane Fee, Brock Ghelfi, and Zach Henkhaus, Colgate’s Andrew Aicher and Connor Murphy, as well as Army’s Sam Finney.
To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and participate in one of the Patriot League’s winter or spring championship sports.
