ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's lacrosse team, who kicked off practice this week, will play four scrimmages this fall, including a goodwill meeting with Japan's Keio University next Friday, Sept. 21 at Rip Miller Field in Annapolis.
Keio University, who collaborated to become Japan's first lacrosse club in 1987, will also face UMBC on Sept. 20 and Towson on Sept. 26 during their annual tour of the United States which encourages cultural exchange in addition to the students' playing experience.
The Mids will travel to South Bend, Ind. on Oct. 13 to square off against NCAA Tournament semifinalst Notre Dame at noon before closing out the fall season on Oct. 20 with a pair of scrimmages in Philadelphia. Navy will face UMBC at 1:00 pm, followed by a 3:00 pm matchup against the host Drexel Dragons.
In his first season as head coach of the Navy lacrosse program, Rick Sowell directed the Midshipmen to a 6-6 record which featured a dominating 8-2 victory over nationally-ranked and NCAA Tournament-bound Johns Hopkins and a 12-10 victory over Patriot League Co-Regular Season Champion Colgate. Five starters return from last year's squad, including All-Patriot League attackman Tucker Hull (Charlotte, N.C.), who guided the Midshipmen with 47 points on 23 goals and 24 assists, and junior Pat Kiernan (Ridgewood, N.J.), who was one the nation's top long stick midfielders and posed a scoring threat with his seven goals and three assists.
