Hull, Kiernan Named Preseason All-Americans
Dec. 5, 2012
BALTIMORE, Md. — Navy junior attackman Tucker Hull (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior long stick midfielder Pat Kiernan (Ridgewood, N.J.) have been named to Inside Lacrosse’s 2013 Face-Off Yearbook Preseason Honorable Mention All-America Team it was announced on Wednesday. Fifteen players were named to each of the top three teams while 47 players comprised the honorable mention squad.
Hull, who was also a 2012 Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American, garnered Second-Team All-Patriot League honors last spring after pacing the Mids with 47 points on 23 goals and 24 assists. It’s the most points scored by a Navy player since 2006 (Jon Birsner, 54 pts). He also gained the distinction of becoming just one of three players in the program’s 105-year history to produce three eight-point games in a season, punching in eight against VMI, Lafayette and Holy Cross. Producing a point in 23 of the 25 games over the course of his two-year career, he finished the season ranked 13th nationally in points per game (3.92) and 11h in assists per game (2.00).
A 2012 Second-Team All-Patriot League specialist, Kiernan was a force to be reckoned with on both ends of the field a year ago. Whether it was scoring, causing turnovers, picking up ground balls or facing off, he stepped up to every challenge. With 10 points on seven goals and three assists, he was Navy’s sixth-leading scorer and was the nation’s fourth-leading scoring defenseman. Despite missing two games early in the season, he finished the year ranked second on the team in caused turnovers with 14 and third in ground balls with 36. He was part of a Navy defense that was ranked 14th nationally, surrendering 8.92 goals per game, while the Mids man-down unit was ranked eighth, stopping 75.0 percent of its opponents’ extra-man opportunities. Additionally, he won eight of the 17 draws he took over the last four games of the season.
The Midshipmen kick off the 2013 campaign on Saturday, Feb. 9 when they play host to VMI. Game time is set for 12:00 pm at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
