As a volunteer coach for four years, Kennedy worked full-time in Washington D.C., for Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Before working in the government sector, he served seven years on active duty in the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego, Washington, D.C., and overseas. While serving in the military, he was selected to play with the All-Navy and All-Armed Services teams and represented the U.S. Armed Forces Team in Cairo, Egypt, at the World Military Games in 2000 and 2002. His last duty station was the Office of Naval Intelligence in Suitland, Md., before resigning his active duty commission as a Lieutenant in 2002. His uncle, Matt Kennedy, was a professional goalkeeper and played in the now-defunct Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) and the National American Soccer League (NASL). He coaches for the Concord Fire youth select teams in Atlanta, Georgia and conducts clinics and soccer camps around the country.
