ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's soccer team will open the 2013 season with a pair of games on the road this weekend. Navy will take on Davidson on Friday at 7:00 PM before playing at Appalachian State on Sunday at 2:00 PM.

Davidson and Appalachian State are both in the Southern Conference. Navy is 5-4-2 all-time against the SoCon. Navy is Davidson's season opener and Appalachian State will host Marshall on Friday night before Sunday's contest with the Mids.

Navy earned a 2-1 win over 2012 Big Ten Regular Season Co-Champion Penn State last weekend in an exhibition match at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Sophomore forwards Thomas Shiiba (Swarthmore, Pa.) and Jamie Dubyoski (Catonsville, Md.) scored for Navy.

Shiiba is one of four Navy players that scored at least 10 points in 2012 along with junior Joseph Greenspan (Westfield, N.J.), sophomore Derek Vogel (Long Beach, Calif.) and junior Grant Valenstein (Laguna Hills, Calif.). Navy ranked 23rd in the nation in scoring last fall with 1.88 goals per game.

Vogel is one of two returning all-league defenders for fifth-year head coach Dave Brandt, along with senior Nick Dubee (Carolina, R.I.). Team captain Zach Davis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) also returns as a starting defenseman.

Navy has a pair of veteran goalkeepers in senior Aaron Dupere (Royal Palm Beach, Fla) and Gavin Snyder (Severna Park, Md.)
