ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy men's soccer player Thomas Jenkins has been named the Patriot League Brine(r) Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Midshipmen to a 2-0-0 record last week, including a shutout of league favorite, American. Jenkins is the first Mid to earn a weekly honor by the Patriot League. The Mids currently boast a 6-4-0 record and are tied for second with five other teams with a 1-1-0 league mark.
Jenkins, a sophomore from Franklin, N.C., helped Navy stop a three-game losing streak last Wednesday night with an impressive outing against preseason league favorite, American. Making his first career start, Jenkins turned aside three American shots, including two in a 10-second flurry in the second half with Navy holding on to a 1-0 lead. With the shutout victory, he became the seventh Navy goalie in school history to record a shutout in his first career start. He backed up his first start with another impressive outing in a 3-1 victory against La Salle on Sunday. He made four stops, with the only goal he allowed coming off a rebound of a penalty shot he originally saved. For the season, Jenkins has appeared in four games, posting a 0.89 GAA and an .800 save percentage with eight saves.
