Navy Travels to Bucknell For Key Patriot League Game

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's soccer team (5-2-2, 1-0-1 PL) puts its six-game unbeaten streak on the line on Saturday when it travels to Bucknell (5-3-2, 1-1-0 PL) for a 2:00 PM kickoff in Lewisburg, Pa., at Emmitt Field. Navy, Colgate and American sit atop a logjam in the Patriot League standings with four points. Holy Cross, Lafayette and Bucknell are just one point back with three points.
Navy's current six-game unbeaten streak (4-0-2) equals the longest for the program since a 10-game unbeaten streak (9-0-1) at the start of the 2000 season. The 2001 team also sported a six-game unbeaten stretch twice during the year.
Combined with the Navy women's team, which owns an 13-game unbeaten streak (13-0-0) entering its match with Lafayette on Friday, the two Navy soccer teams have combined for a 19-game unbeaten streak (17-0-2).
Navy is ranked eighth in the latest NSCAA / Continental Tire Mid-Atlantic regional poll, which came out Monday. Bucknell enters the contest ranked tied for fifth in the same region.
Navy's two losses on the season have come to No. 11-ranked Old Dominion (7-1-1) and No. 23-ranked High Point (9-0-1). At the time of the George Mason game on Sept. 19, Navy faced three of the last seven remaining unbeatens (Old Dominion, High Point and George Mason were all undefeated as of Sept. 19). Navy handed George Mason its first loss.
In the first halves of the last five games, Navy has outscored its opponents, 11-2, tallying its 11 goals on 41 shots.
Navy and Bucknell rank tied for first in the Patriot League in total goals scored (18) while ranking one and two in goals per game (2.00 and 1.80), respectively. Navy and Bucknell also rank first and second in shots per game (16.56 and 14.00 per game).
Bucknell has had 12 players score goals this year and five players with two each. Navy has had 11 players score goals and two players lead with three each.
Navy ranks 30th in the country in goals per game (2.00) and 41st in total goals scored (18).
Navy has scored in six straight games, matching its longest streak since scoring in 10 straight games to start the 2000 season.
Joseph Greenspan and Alex Wilson continue to lead Navy's offense with 10 points (3 g, 4 a) each. Nick Dubee and Grant Valenstein have contributed five points each (2 g, 1 a), while Derek Vogel (2 g) and Thomas Shiiba (3 a) have four and three points, respectively.
Navy is outscoring its foes, 18-12, on the season and outshooting opponents, 149-109 (16.6 to 12.1 per game).
Alex Wilson ranks 33rd in the country in assists per game (0.50) while Joseph Greenspan is 52nd (0.44). Wilson and Greenspan are tied for 40th in total assists (4).
Gavin Snyder has played the majority of time in goal, registering a 1.31 GAA with a .676 save percentage (25 saves, 12 GA).

Bucknell has won six straight games against Navy by a combined 12-3 margin. Bucknell owns a 10-game unbeaten streak (9-0-1) against Navy dating back to Navy's last win, a 2-1 decision in the 2001 season, in what was the dedication game of the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
The 10-game winless streak against Bucknell entered the year tied with Lafayette as the longest winless streak against one opponent. Navy ended its 10-game winless streak against Lafayette earlier this year with a 4-2 decision in Annapolis.
Navy last won in Lewisburg in 1998 by a 2-0 advantage. Since then, Navy is 0-6-0 against the Bison, being outscored by an 11-2 margin.
Bucknell is the only Patriot League opponent that head coach Dave Brandt has not earned a point from.
